but since having my own machine and the ability to tweak my cpu, extensions, etc to my own tastes. sure, when i was using a 96 ram g3 imac at school, it crashed on me all the time. my desktop is a rock and has only crashed a few times, so i didn't feel any urgency. On osx.yeah, i know it is getting to be time to switch, i just haven't really had any problems with os9 for the past 2 years. does megaseg have a demo i can play with first? i do a hybrid electronic/hiphop type ually with odd time sigs with a lot of glitch beats in between. you're right, i had forgotten/underestimated the difference the g4 chip makes. Thanks for the tip on megaseg.i'll definitely check it out. Couple the resource usage with the slow bus on the clamshell and the relatively slow processor and I think you would have a losing combo anyways.Īnother iowan! i grew up in iowa city.and my dad and stepmom just moved out to des moines a year ago. It DEFINATELY makes a difference in Traktor. And, in your original post, you seem to forget about the Altivec engine in the G4. Even on my G4/500/533 Megs of Ram it is far from quick. Also, even if you were to get Traktor to run, I think you would be pretty dissapointed. I mean, you've already got plenty of Ram, so get Panther, I guarantee you'll be much happier in the long run (it runs fine on my 300MHz/192 meg Book). Man, it's gotta go! X is so much more stable (I don't know about you, but that's my primary concern in live performance). #Megaseg glitching out softwareThere are also some other software options, but I think the reason we're all here is because we know that Traktor is the best thing out there!Īlso, just a comment on staying with OS 9. It has some nice features although it definately isn't as performance oriented as Traktor. Depending on the type of mixing you do, it may or may not suit your style. I'll probably give the software you mention a shot, but I just thought I would recommend MegaSeg to you as well. Normally, I just use iTunes for a dump track in case of emergency, or to play some ITMS AAC tracks that Traktor can't play. I currently use my iBook in conjunction with my main mixing machine (Beige G3 upgraded to a G4 in a custom road case with my external mixer) as basically a backup. Someone also mentioned a virtual desktop as a solution? what is would love to run Traktor on my clamshell too. has this been fixed in subsequent versions of traktor? Oh.incidentally, i read in some archived threads that there seems to be an issue with ibook's 800圆00 max resolution. of course, this would be going down another 150 MHz, so. but i've played with it on a G4 450 and it seemed to be okay. i would like to run traktor 2 and am prepared to have traktor play higher rate mp3s if necessary. I have a 300 MHz clamshell ibook with 544 ram running os 9.2. it seems that people think an ibook should be able to run traktor just fine.i'm curious how low people think the bar can be lowered. i know people have been talking about ibooks in some of the other posts.but mine is even older and i just want to check people's opinions.
